Mr. Alcarez suffered multiple serious injuries to his spine, chest, crushed right hand, and symptoms of difficulty breathing. The ship could not afford medical care for its serious illness, so the captain contacted Vietnamese authorities.
The Bulk Japan ship was then contacted by the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center and guided to redirect its route to Da Nang. Doctors at 115 Da Nang took on the task of providing medical advice and diagnosing an extremely critical condition. The victim had lost a lot of blood and needed to be taken home for emergency treatment. At 9:50 p.m., the rescue ship SAR 274 (belonging to Danang MRCC) brought a medical team to the ship with the crew in distress.
After an hour of emergency treatment, the victim initially overcame the critical condition and was immediately transferred to a rescue ship to the mainland. By dawn on June 13, Mr. Alcarez was transferred to Da Nang General Hospital for further treatment.
